The SA22C / FB RX-7 had a long motorsport career. In 1980 Mazda began developing it for Group 5 regulations. Initially the bodywork was developed, this was tested over an existing racing chassis before an injected 13B was fitted. Testing included comparison with the existing 12A IMSA spec car. Photos from these early tests are shown here. It's hard to see, but it looks like the cars were fitted with SSR Mk2s wheels. The RX-7 would continue to its peak in 1982 with the Group

Dome, a Japanese small volume manufacturer, put together a spaceframe Celica to compete in endurance races around the world in 1980. With a highly strung 18R-G (560hp claimed) it had frequent engine troubles causing DNF finishes at three of its four entered events (Sebring 12hr / Riverside 5hr / Suzuka 1000km). It also failed to qualify at Le Mans, so its results were dismal. It is however a wild-looking and interesting machine. Of interest here at Pine are the Hayashi 16"

Since the late 60's Masakazu Hayashi and his company Hayashi Racing had been developing racing machines and products. For the 1980 season Hayashi Racing developed a full F-3 machine named the 803 (independent from the similarly named March 803 of the same period). As with all machines in the class, it ran a Toyota 2TG engine Two chassis were run for the Japanese F-3 season, no.5 (Command livery) driven by Kengo Nakamoto, and no.21 (Street II / Command livery) driven by Osamu

Another of the 1983 Japanese F2 machines - #11 Superstar Racing It appears to have only taken part in the first race of the season, resulted in a DNF and never shown up again. This means it's virtually impossible to find any more photos of those mega gold-anodised centerlock Superstar SS01 wheels...
